Research & Manuscripts

Manuscripts and traditional textual materials are important sources for understanding India’s intellectual, philosophical, literary and cultural heritage.
The Vedic Research Centre seeks to encourage the documentation, preservation, study and dissemination of valuable textual resources, including palm-leaf manuscripts and other historical materials connected with traditional knowledge.
Through research, documentation and academic collaboration, the Centre aims to support the continued study of these materials and their contribution to Vedic studies and the wider field of Indology.
Manuscript Preservation
Manuscript preservation involves more than protecting an old document. It includes identifying materials, recording their details, documenting their condition, organising them for study and supporting responsible access for researchers.
The Centre’s manuscript-related work and academic programmes help introduce students and scholars to the methods used to study historical texts and documentary sources.
Prayogamala
Documenting Rare Vedic Traditions and Practices
Prayogamala is an initiative of the Vedic Research Centre for documenting and preserving rare Vedic traditions and practices.
The programme recognises the importance of recording traditional knowledge and practices so they can be studied, understood and transmitted to future generations.
Manuscriptology, Epigraphy and Paleography
These fields provide essential methods for studying historical manuscripts, inscriptions and writing systems.
The VRC has organised academic training in manuscriptology, epigraphy and paleography for college students, supporting practical exposure to these areas of research.
Documentation and Archives
The Centre’s documentation and archival work can bring together manuscripts, research records, lecture proceedings, scholarly materials and records of traditional practices.
The website’s archive should distinguish between material already documented and future or ongoing initiatives. Specific digitisation projects, collection sizes and publication plans should be listed only where confirmed by the institution.
